Are you ready for a challenge?

Hello!
I hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of school! One of my favorite things to do with my Geometry students is to send them on an internet math scavenger hunt! So, get your fingers ready and start looking! We'll start with a fairly small scavenger hunt to get you warmed up this week. Check back in a few weeks and I'll have a much more challenging hunt for you to tackle! When you get the answers to all of the questions, post a comment to me. I'll copy and paste the correct answers from all of you with my next post.

Caution: remember that not all answers on the internet are correct answers. A good rule of the thumb is to make sure you can cross references your answers with at least two other internet sources.

Have fun . . . I can't wait to see your answers!

1. What large fractal was on display for the 1997 National Council of the Teachers of Mathematics conference? Be sure to include the picture with your answer.
BTW: What's a fractal?!?
2. What is the Four Color (or Colour) Theorem? What is controversial about the proof of this theorem?
3. What president of the United States wrote a correct proof of the Pythagorean Theorem? What was the proof?
4. What's an icosahedron? Find a sculpture of one and include the picture with your answer.

Good Luck
